1. What is Take Me Cooking?

Take Me Cooking is an online platform that connects passionate cooks with curious travelers looking for authentic local cooking experiences.

We help travelers find delicious cooking experiences when visiting new destinations. We open the doors for travelers to get the hands-on cooking and eating experience they’ve been craving.

We also connect local chefs and passionate home cooks with flavor-seeking travelers to share their food culture and tradition in an authentic, sustainable way.

2. What kind of cooking experiences can I book?

You have a lot of choices. Here are some of the options you’ll be able to choose from:

  • Do you want to cook from scratch? Do you want to go on a market visit with your host?
  • Do you want an immersive experience, at the chef’s home, or a “backstage experience” seeing behind the scenes in a restaurant kitchen?
  • What kind of food theme do you want? Baking? Local food? Organic food?
  • What type of location are you looking for? Rural or urban?
  • Do you prefer to cook with a professional chef or an enthusiastic home cook?

You’ll be able to choose from all of these options, and more.

3. What can I expect during a cooking experience?

Every cooking experience is different — that’s part of what makes each Take Me Cooking event unique. That said, here is what you can expect, in general, from each and every experience:

You can expect a friendly host who is open and excited to share recipes, stories, and cooking techniques with you.

You can expect to be involved in the cooking process, whether this involves a market visit, cooking from scratch, or simply helping with small tasks throughout the meal preparation.

You can expect to leave your event having eaten a delicious, local meal, and with new knowledge about authentic dishes, and maybe even a few new friends.

4. Why is there a 5% processing fee?

You’ll notice that the processing fee is added in the final step of purchasing your experience, when you are asked to review your purchase and pay. Processing fees are 5% of the experience cost, which cover the administrative costs of running our platform.

5. How do I know if a host can be trusted?

We conduct Skype interviews and evaluate our hosts before accepting them on our platform, but the best way to see if a host will meet your expectations is to look at traveler reviews. See what other guests have to say about cooking events with our wide array of hosts, and use them to help guide you to the perfect event for you.

6. Who can become a host?

Anyone can become a host! Do you love creating satisfying meals? Are you always thrilled with any opportunity to share your cooking skills with friends and family?

Our hosts share a passion for cooking, but the method in which they go about joining our platform may differ. Do you love teaching cooking but aren’t sure how to find potential guests? Do you currently teach cooking classes but don’t have time to build a website?

Take Me Cooking offers a space for hosts from all backgrounds to connect with guests and share their stories through food.

7. How can I sign up to be a host?

Send us an email at contact@takemecooking.com and we’ll set up a brief Skype call to talk about your plans and explain our guidelines.

8. What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than seven days ahead of time are fully refundable.

Cancellations made less than seven days ahead are non-refundable; our hosts put a lot of time and effort into planning, shopping, and preparing for your cooking experience, so if you cancel fewer than seven days ahead of time, we will be unable to give you a refund.

9. What is the policy about food safety?

We take food safety seriously. Before hosting a cooking experience, hosts must agree to our food safety guidelines, outlined in our Terms and Conditions. By becoming a host, they have agreed to follow local and international regulations for food safety.

10. What is a private experience?

Some hosts have a minimum number of attendees for group experiences. If you have booked an experience and this number isn’t reached, we might (depending on the hosts) send you an offer for a private experience (which comes at an extra fee). This means you’ll be the only ones to experience this event.

11. Do I need to know the local language? What language will the hosts speak?

Regardless of your proficiency in the local language, our hosts will be able to communicate with you in English.

All of our hosts have at least a basic knowledge of English, and many speak fluent English, so you’ll be able to communicate and cook together even if you’re not fluent in the local language.

12. How do I pay for the cooking experience?

You can pay for your cooking experience with Paypal — you can use an existing Paypal account, and Paypal also allows you to use your credit card.

You’ll pay for the experience in advance, although the payment won’t be released to the host until the cooking experience has been delivered.

13. Once I sign up for an experience, what is the process like?

Once you choose your cooking experience, here’s what will happen:

The host will receive your booking and prepare for the experience. You’ll receive an email explaining how to get in touch with your host and details for the event.

Some hosts require a minimum number of participants in order for the event to be confirmed. If the minimum number of people don’t sign up for an event, you may receive an invitation for a private experience that you’ll be free to accept or refuse.

Otherwise, you will receive confirmation of your group event, along with any special instructions from the host about how to get there.

On the day of your event, you’ll meet passionate cooks and fellow travelers and enjoy an authentic meal that you’ve helped to prepare.
